Origins

Where did they come from? That's a tough question to answer, all of their stories were told from mouth to mouth, and most of the stories were lost in the famine with the cats. Like all of the other clans Whisperclan started out with rouges, loners, and outcasts. Even a few kittypets at times, but they were somewhat frowned upon in Whisperclan and they were not always treated equally with clanborn cats. Because of this, they would often leave for one of the more hospitable clans on Whisperclan's border. Some would call Whisperclan evil. That is not true, at least, they didn't start out that way. There was once a time of great famine and disease in the great forest. Due to this, clan reasoning grew thin. Things like betrayal became more common, the cunning would steal from the others. The strong would fight the others for food. Cats from other clans would band together in order to survive. This lead to a time of great chaos and upheavel. The warrior code was now broken, because anyone who followed it to the letter would be dead soon enough.

But the famine did not last forever. The leaders worked together and got the clans back together. They broke up the band of rebels. After a few month the disease was gone and things were mostly back to normal. However there was still the problem of what to do with the cats who had betrayed the warrior code. The leaders knew that they did it so that they would not die, but they also knew that they could not keep the cats in their clan any longer. And so all of the cats were banished to never return to their own clans.

The cats, cold hungry and defeated were left alone in the forest to die off. But that didn't happen. There were whispers, that the cats had gotten together and formed their own clan. But this theory was long ago dismissed. But it was not a rumor. The cats, knowing it was unite or perish had formed their own clan. And because they were only a rumor they named it Whisperclan. These were the cunning and the ambitious. The cats too dangerous to be left in the clans. But together they became united. They were no longer betrayers, they were no longer unwanted. And they became loyal to each other.

But they also knew that they could not be seen, it was alright if there were rumors, that was fine. But they were still weak. They could not have sustained a united attack from the other clans. And so they became night dwellers, like their ancestors in Shadowclan. And so, Darkflower became Darkstar, the first leader of Whisperclan.
